The Humanity of the Saviour (Heb. 2:12-13)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12-31-02

My Worship Time                                               Focus:  The humanity of the Saviour.

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Hebrews 2:12-13

            1.  Message of the verse:  saying: ‘I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You.’  And again: ‘I will put My trust in Him." And again: "Here am I and the children whom God has given Me.’”  (NKJV)  “For He said to God, ‘I will declare the wonder of Your name to my brothers and sisters.  I will praise You among all Your people.’  He also said, ‘I will put my trust in Him.’  And in the same context He said, ‘here I am together with the children God has given me.’”  (NLV)

Verse twelve is a continuation of verse eleven and if you realize this then it is easier to get the meaning of verse twelve.  Verse eleven speaks of sanctification, the sanctification of believers, and speaks of having the same Father as the Lord Jesus Christ, and thus verse twelve flows out of it by confirming this from a quote from Psalm 22:3.  Psalm 22 is a messianic psalm that speaks of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ before anyone was ever crucified. In this part of the verse it speaks of those who would be called brethren of Christ.  It is interesting to see that none of Jesus’ disciples were called brethren until after the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave, which confirmed the payment for their salvation.  Verse thirteen confirms what verses nine through eleven have been speaking about and that is the humanity of Jesus Christ.  He had to be human in order to be able to die for humans.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Again as I look at these verses I am awe struck at all of the details and the perfection in carrying out of these details for my salvation.  If I were the only one who was in need of salvation the same thing would have been done for only me.

The Word of God was refreshing and also challenging to me this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I must trust the Lord to work through my weaknesses and in particular t IBS.

Memory verse for the week:  Colossians 4:5 (NIV)

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
