The spirit of Antichrist (1 John 4:3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11-25d-2004

My Worship Time                                                                           Focus:  The Spirit of Antichrist

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  1 John 4:3

Message of the verses:  “3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.”

Just a reminder that the Spiritual Diaries that I am writing are not from November of 2004 as I have not been able to locate the ones from 1 John 4:1-6 and as I was doing some research as to why they were not there I found that in the commentary that I was using to help me understand what is in these verses, Dr. Warren Wiersbe’s commentaries, I found that he did not write anything concerning these six verses and so I followed his outline and did not write anything about them.  I am try to correct that error by quoting from John MacArthur’s Study Bible what he has written on these different verses.

John MacArthur writes:  “The spirit of antichrist.”  “Those false teachers who denied the true nature of the Son are to be identified among the antichrists in 2:18, 19 (2 John 7).  The same demonic deception that will work to produce the final world ruler (See Revelation 13:1-8 for more on the antichrist in the end times), who rules as the false Christ is always actively seeking to distort Jesus Christ’s true nature, perverting the gospel.  The final Antichrist will not be something new, but will be the ultimate embodiment of all the antichrist spirits that have perverted truth and propagated satanic lies since the beginning.  This is similar to 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8, where the man of lawlessness (Antichrist) is still to be revealed, but the mystery of lawlessness is already at work.”

Some people thought that Hitler was the Antichrist, and my thoughts are that he was “an antichrist,” but not the Antichrist that will come upon the world during the last seven years, prior to the second coming of Jesus Christ as described in Revelation 19.  My thoughts that our last President would also fall into the category of being “an antichrist.”
