The End of Babylon (Rev. 18:22-24)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 10/25/2005

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The End of Babylon

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Revelation 18:22-24

Message of the verse:  “22 Never again will the sound of music be heard there—no more harps, songs, flutes, or trumpets. There will be no industry of any kind, and no more milling of grain.  23 Her nights will be dark, without a single lamp. There will be no happy voices of brides and grooms. This will happen because her merchants, who were the greatest in the world, deceived the nations with her sorceries.  24 In her streets the blood of the prophets was spilled. She was the one who slaughtered God’s people all over the world.”

The destruction or the judgment of Babylon will happen near the end of the tribulation period and some of these things that are written in these three verses are things that happen in a normal society, but what ever normality there was in the world at this time will be gone, and the end will not be far off.

Verses 22 & 23 do speak of normal everyday things that happen in a society, and for sure God’s people have done them ever since the world began, but it was not these things that were done that was sinful, it was the hearts of the people who did them that were utterly sinful, and therefore when God judges Babylon these things will not be seen in her streets anymore.

Verse 24 tells of sinful things that her people have done and they will be judged for these things.  These people have killed the prophets of God and the people of God because they hated God, for Jesus said that this would happen, and also said that it happened before He came to earth so what we are talking about here is a system that has been in operation since Genesis 10 & 11.  This system has always been anti God and it will culminate with Antichrist as it head and will be destroyed and never again be seen, because shortly after it’s destruction the King of Kings and Lord of Lords will return to planet earth and destroy all the evilness that He finds when He returns.  Praise the Lord!!

Spiritual meaning for my life:  I think that 1 John 2:15 & 16 describe the systems of Babylon very well, for John warns his readers that they are not to love this world system, and the things that are a part of this world system are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, and these surely describe what Babylon was all about.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, and having an old nature, I am pulled to this system, and that must be why John warned believers about this.  Paul wrote in 1 Corinthian 10:13 that there is not temptation taken you but such as is common to man, and the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life are all sins that are common to man, but Paul goes on to say that God is faithful who will not suffer you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation find a way for you to escape that you may be able to hold up under it.  God is and always has been and always be faithful to me.

The Word of God has brought encouragement and conviction to my heart as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want to believe, understand and put into practice the things in 1 Corinthians 10:13 today and everyday.
