SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time Focus: Psalm 127
PT-2
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Psalm 127 1b
Message of
the verses: We began to look at the 127th
Psalm in yesterday’s Spiritual Diary by looking at several introductions along
with looking at the first part of verse one.
Dr. Wiersbe writes at the end of his introductory commentary these
words, “But the psalm also speaks to us today and reminds us of some privileges
we have as the people of God in a dangerous and demanding world.”
Guarding (1b)
“Unless the LORD
guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.”
In the 9th
chapter of the book of Daniel and in verse 25b we read the following about what
kind of times the people who are rebuilding the city of Jerusalem are in, “it
will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.” The fulfillment of this prophecy is seen in
the book of Nehemiah where we read, “17 Those who were rebuilding the wall and
those who carried burdens took their load with one hand doing the work and the
other holding a weapon. 18 As for the builders, each wore his sword girded at
his side as he built, while the trumpeter stood near me.”
We have mentioned Charles H.
Spurgeon in many of the introductions of the psalms that we are studying as we
look at his introductory commentary.
Charles H. Spurgeon was a contemporary of Dwight L. Moody as they both
ministered in the mid to late 1800’s.
Moody was from the United States, while Spurgeon was from England, but
they worked together in England on different occasions to bring the Gospel to
those in need. Spurgeon printed a
publication entitled “The Sword and The
Trowel” and it was named that way as Dr. Wiersbe writes, “to build
believers and the church and to fight sin and false doctrine.” We surely need such a publication today in
our country.
Dr. Wiersbe finishes his commentary
on this section by writing the following, “If parents, teachers, and church
leaders do not courageously maintain the walls and guard against the enemy, our
building will be in vain.”
In the mail that came yesterday I
received a letter and a CD from the ministry of John MacArthur and both speak of
the terrible situation that Americans face in our country during this time that
we live in. A major part of his message
came from the text of Romans chapter 1 and verses 19-32 and in this section we
read in some of these verses a phrase that says “and God gave them over.” MacArthur states that the things that go
along with this phrase, “God gave them over” is, and has been happening in this
country for some time now. As we couple
this with the statement that Dr. Wiersbe gives we can concur that parents,
teachers, and church leaders have not been doing the job that should be done in
order to keep the family and the church safe from these outside influences that
are mentioned in Romans chapter one. One
of the statements that John MacArthur made actually startled me, but I suppose
that once I thought about it that it should not have. He states that during the Democratic
convention that was held in Charlotte North Carolina this year that all of the
things that Paul warns us about in Romans chapter one verses 19-32 were there
as they went so far as to try to vote God out of their platform and if you
listened to it they had enough votes, but lied about it and kept God in their
platform. Take time to read over these
verses and then look around at where we live and see the enormous amount of
trouble that we as a nation are in and begin to pray that God will be merciful
to us and bring about another great revival in our land.
Spiritual
meaning for my life today: I want to
be a better influence on those that God brings into my life so that I can give
them the truth that will set them free.
My Steps of Faith for Today: Continue to
pray for another “Great Awakening” in our country.
Memory verses for the
week: 1Cor. 13:8-11
8 Love never fails;
but if there are gifts of prophecies they will be done away; if there are
tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge it will be done away. 9 For we know in part and we prophecy in
part, 10 but when the perfect comes the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child I use to speak like a
child, think like a child, reason like a child, when I became a man I did away
with childish things.
