Do Not Be Deceived (Mark 13:5-8)

SPIRITUA DIARY FOR 11/15/2012 9:11:53 AM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  Don’t be Deceived

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Mark 13:5-8

Spiritual meaning of the verses:  Dr. Wiersbe entitles the section from Mark 13:5-13 (The First Half of the Tribulation), and there are two sub-points in this section.  The first one we will look at today:

“5 And Jesus began to say to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 6 “Many will come in My name, saying, ’I am He!’ and will mislead many. 7 “When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end. 8 “For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

As we look at verse eight we can see that our Lord speaks of the beginning of “birth pangs.”  We know that when a woman is close to having her baby that she will begin to experience birth pangs and as the time draws near for the baby to be delivered the birth pangs grow closer together and also more intense in the pain.  The things that Jesus is speaking of in verses 5-8 are things that will begin to happen after Jesus returns to His Father, and they will continue to grow in intensity and in numbers.  We live on a very dangerous planet.

Jesus mentions false messiahs, political conflicts and natural disasters that will intensify as we grow closer to the “tribulation” period which is spoken of in Revelations 6-19 and also in Daniel nine.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Trust the Lord for His plan for the world and His plan for my life.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Contentment and transformation.
