SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 12/23/2006
My Worship Time Focus: The Agreement
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Genesis 29:14-20
Message of the verse: “14 Laban said to him, "Surely you are my bone and my flesh." And he stayed with him a month. 15 Then Laban said to Jacob, "Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?" 16 Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 And Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful of form and face. 18 Now Jacob loved Rachel, so he said, "I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel." 19 Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you than to give her to another man; stay with me." 20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel and they seemed to him but a few days because of his love for her.”
They say that love is blind, and when you are young and love comes to you there seems to be nothing else that matters so you do whatever you have to do in order to get the love of your life, and that is exactly what Jacob did here, as he served Laban seven years for what he thought was Rachel, but Laban did not say that after seven years he would receive Rachel, he only said that it was better to give her to Jacob, since he was a relative that to give her to someone else. Therefore because love had blinded Jacob he did not read the “fine print,” and will be upset after he finds out what it said.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: It was not love that got me into trouble, it was trying to get something for nothing, and I should have known better, and hopefully I will know better from now on. I need to listen to that still small voice that speaks to me in situations like this.
The Word of God was very convicting to me as I read and studied it this morning.
My Steps of Faith Today: Listen to that “still small voice” from now on.
