The Promise Fulfilled (Gen. 45:16-21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 01-28-2008

My Worship Time                                                                                 Focus:  Promise

Bible Reading & Meditation                               Reference:  Genesis 45:16-21

Message of the verses:  “16 Now when the news was heard in Pharaoh’s house that Joseph’s brothers had come, it pleased Pharaoh and his servants.  17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Say to your brothers, ‘Do this: load your beasts and go to the land of Canaan, 18 and take your father and your households and come to me, and I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you will eat the fat of the land.’  19 “Now you are ordered, ‘Do this: take wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father and come.  20 ‘Do not concern yourselves with your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’"  21 Then the sons of Israel did so; and Joseph gave them wagons according to the command of Pharaoh, and gave them provisions for the journey.”

In this section Joseph and also Pharaoh spoke to Joseph’s brothers and told them to hurry up and go get their father and bring him and the rest of the family back to Egypt.  Perhaps they are now realizing that God was the One at work here to bring all of Jacob’s family to Egypt in order to turn a family into a nation.  God’s plans are never thwarted even though at times perhaps it seems that God has taken a vacation and has forgotten all about the promises that He has made to His children.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I am sure that for Joseph their were many times when he doubted that the Lord was working in all of the things that he was forced to endure, yet now as he looked back he could see what it was that God was planning to do through him.  I hope and pray that someday real soon that Sandy and I will understand what it is that God is planning to do in our lives at this point of our lives.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Even though this has been one of the worst days of my life I still choose to trust in the Lord to give guidance and direction as to what is going on in our lives.

Memory verses for the week:  Philippians 1:9-11

  1. And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,
  2. so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ
  3. having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
