PT-6 "Peace with God and With His People" (Eph. 2:14-17)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/10/2019 9:57 AM

My Worship Time                                       Focus:  PT-6 “Peace With God and With His People”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Eph. 2:14-17

Message of the verses:  14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. 17 AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR;”

We want to look at verse 17 as when we look at this verse we know that according to verse 14 “He Himself is our peace,” is the One who is doing the preaching as “HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR.”  The Greek word for preached is Euangelizo and it literally means to bring or to announce good news, and when we see this word in the NT is generally means the preaching of the good news of the Gospel.  MacArthur writes that from this word “and related Greek terms we get such English words as evangelize, evangelist, and evangelical.  The phrase in our text might therefore be rendered, ‘He came and’ gospeled, evangelized, ‘peace.’”

Let us look at the heavenly announcement of Jesus birth from Luke 2:14 “"Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased."  The ones in whom the Lord is pleased are the ones who trust in His Son Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.  When we looked at verse thirteen we stated that the ones who were far away were the Gentiles and the ones who are near are the Jews.  Each and every person both Jews and Gentiles alike have access to God’s peace through Christ.

Let us look at several verses that speak of Jesus being the Prince of Peace:  “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6).”  "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful (John 14:27).”  Matthew 5:9 tells us that His disciples are also to be peacemakers “"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”  Jesus sent out the seventy and said to them in Luke 10:5-6 “5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ’Peace be to this house.’ 6 “If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.”  In John 16:33 we read the following which is near the last time that Jesus spoke to His disciples “"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.’”

Now as we moved through the early church and the early apostles and preachers we saw similar things about peace that they spoke too.  I want to only look at one verse and then will list several others without looking at them:  “"The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ He is Lord of all.”

Galatians 5:22-23; Romans 14:17; 1 Cor. 14:33; Heb. 13:20 and 1 Cor. 7:15 are the verses that have peace in them.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I suppose that one of the first things that I am to do when difficulties come my way is to first of all pray and then remember that I have peace through the blood of the cross and also I have the peace that surpasses all understanding.  Peach with God and the peace of God are comforting.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  I want to remember that truth is more powerful than emotions, and also remember the truths of Romans 12:3.

Answer to yesterday’s Bible question: “Faith” (Hebrews 11:1).

Today’s Bible question:  “With what words did John the Baptist introduce Jesus?”

Answer in our next SD.
