PT-2 "The Characteristics" (Eph. 5:9-10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6/9/2019 10:31 PM

My Worship Time                                                                  Focus:  PT-2 “The Characteristics”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                Reference:  Ephesians 5:9-10

Message of the verses:  8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),” (ESV).

I mentioned in our last SD that we are using the ESV because it shows verse nine in a parenthesis which is the way that John MacArthur thinks it should be in reading from his commentary.  Also we looked at the first of three characteristics, or fruit of believers that when they can be seen in their lives we can be assured that they truly are believers.

The second result, or fruit, of our walk as children of light is righteousness and this has to do first of all with our relationship to God.  Romans 4:5 says “To the one who does not work, but believers in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness.”  There is more to righteousness, as it also has to do with how we live, so it is not just about salvation but also about sanctification.  Those who are made righteous are commanded to live righteously to present themselves “to God as those alive from the dead, and [their] members as instruments of righteousness to God” (Rom. 6:13).  Jesus Christ has given us His own Righteous nature and so we are to pursue righteousness.

I hesitate to even begin the third fruit of the light in this SD because of the lateness of the hour, and also because it has been a very long and tiresome day as there were actually good things that happened today and some other things that were very challenging too.   It is not my desire to make such a short SD but that is the way it has to be for today.

Quotations today is from Theodore Epp who said “Our strength is seen in the things we stand for; our weakness is seen in the things we fall for.”  (I have to say that I really like this quotation.
