SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  He blessed them

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:   Joshua 22:6-8

Message of the verses:  “6  So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents. 7  Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave a possession among their brothers westward beyond the Jordan. So when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them, 8  and said to them, ‘Return to your tents with great riches and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and with very many clothes; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.’”

This is the forth and last sub-section under “Their honorable discharge,” from Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on Joshua:  “Be Strong.”  Joshua gives a blessing to those who would be returning to the east side of the Jordan, to the land that Moses had given to them before he had died and was buried by God.

It was usually the job of the high priest to give a blessing but not uncommon for a leader or a father to give a blessing and so Joshua the general of the army of Israel gave the blessing to these troops and not only the blessing but many spoils from the war they had just completed.  These would be taken back to their homes and shared with those who has stayed their to protect the families who were there.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Joshua is the OT name of Jesus and it was Jesus who has won the battle on my account, the One who has provided salvation for me and He has given me His Holy Spirit as a down payment until He returns for me in the rapture and then takes me home to be with Him forever and it is their I will receive spoils from the victory that He has secured for me.  I have a wonderful inheritance given to me from the Lord as described in Ephesians 1-3, and I need to claim this inheritance by faith.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service.
  2. Take off the old and put on the new.
  3. Put on Christ’s yoke in order to be yoked with Him to find rest because of the inheritance that I already have in Him.
  4. Continue to learn contentment.
  5. Put on the spiritual armor:  The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and take up the sword of the Spirit.
