Submissive Wives (1 Peter 3:1-2)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

                                                                                                Date:  01-05-04
My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Submissive wives

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  1Peter 3:1-2

Message of the verse:  “1 ¶  In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2  as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior.”  (NASB95)  “1 ¶  In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands, even those who refuse to accept the Good News. Your godly lives will speak to them better than any words. They will be won over 2  by watching your pure, godly behavior.”  (NLT)
As been noted before there were no chapter breaks in the original versions of the Bible, and there were not even any verse breaks.  With that in mind it is easier to see the flow of what Peter’s message in these verses if one looks back into the previous section where Peter was writing about submission of people to governments, to masters, and also gave the example of the Lord Jesus Christ submission.  Peter says that in this same way wives should be in submission to their husbands in order that if their husband is not saved they will be able to see the example of the wife’s behavior and because of this new behavior trust the Lord as their Savior.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  One of the notes from my study Bible says that just because there is submission to another person does not mean that the one doing the submission is inferior to the one that they are submitting too.  The case in point is that of Jesus Christ who submitted to His Father’s will when He came to earth to die for my sins on the cross.  This is one thing that I need to be aware of in my relationship with my wife.

The Word of God has brought conviction to me and it has also challenged my heart.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want to make sure that before I do things with the people that the Lord has entrusted me to disciple that I talk to Him about it.  I would like to send Beth the chapter in Dr. Wiersbe’s book that I am studying, and also to give a copy to Sandy Catalusci, and talk to her about something that I do not even want to write about.

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 119:18 & 1Corinthians 10:13

Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your Law.

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide a way of escape also, so you will be able to endure it.
