My
Worship Time Focus: True children of Sarah
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: 1Peter 3:5, 6
Message
of the verses:
“5 For in this way in former
times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being
submissive to their own husbands; 6 just
as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if
you do what is right without being frightened by any fear.” (NASB95) “5
That is the way the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They
trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands. 6 For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband,
Abraham, when she called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what
is right without fear of what your husbands might do.” (NLT)
Peter
continues to describe this character that women should have in verse five where
he reminds his readers of the OT women of faith who had the kind of character
that God desires all women of faith to have.
The adorning that these women had is being submissive to their own
husbands. In verse six Peter gets more
specific in describing the character of Sarah.
Sarah knew the order that God has set up for being submissive, and that
is Jesus Christ was submissive to God the Father in His plan for salvation, and
the Holy Spirit is submissive to Christ in the work of His Church, and then man
is submissive to Jesus Christ, and the wife is submissive to her husband. Again this dose not talk of being inferior to
the one You are in submission to in the case of the wife to the Husband or
Christ to His Father. Peter then says that NT believers are daughters of Sarah
when they “do what is right without fear of what you husbands might do.”
Spiritual
meaning for my life today: To live my life in submission to
the Lord Jesus Christ seeking each day to prove what His will is for me to do,
and by His grace to do it.
The Word of God was challenging
to my heart as I read it this morning.
My
Steps of Faith Today: Trust the Lord to give me the grace that I surely
need today to get along well with my wife.
Memory verse for the week: Psalm 119:18 & Psalm 119:105
Open my eyes, that I may see
wonderful things from Your law.
Your Word is a lamp to my feet,
and a light to my path.
