My Worship Time                                                                          Focus:  Psalm 104 PT-3

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Psalm 104:24-35

Message of the verse:  We will look at the last main section of Psalm 104 in Today’s SD.

The Wisdom of Our God (vv. 24-35):  “24 O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; The earth is full of Your possessions. 25 There is the sea, great and broad, In which are swarms without number, Animals both small and great. 26 There the ships move along, And Leviathan, which You have formed to sport in it. 27 They all wait for You To give them their food in due season. 28 You give to them, they gather it up; You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good. 29 You hide Your face, they are dismayed; You take away their spirit, they expire And return to their dust. 30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the ground.  “31 Let the glory of the LORD endure forever; Let the LORD be glad in His works; 32 He looks at the earth, and it trembles; He touches the mountains, and they smoke. 33 I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 34 Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD. 35 Let sinners be consumed from the earth And let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!”

I try each day to begin my time in prayer, and one of the things that I do in my prayer is to praise the Lord for some of the different attributes that He possesses.  One of them is His wisdom, for God is all wise, and when you think of the creation of the entire universe including the earth without His wisdom that could not have been completed.  However when you think about salvation through the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, that could not have been accomplished without the wisdom of God, and so we will look at a portion of God’s wisdom from Psalm 104 today as it relates to creation and the sustaining of the earth.

Dr. Wiersbe begins his commentary with these words, “Whether we study invisible microscopic life, visible plant and animal life, human life, or the myriad of things that have no life, the diversity in creation is amazing.”  As we look at all of these things we can praise the Lord for the wisdom of His creation.

When we look at the earth today we have different seasons, we have different kinds of animals, fish, birds, insects whereas God could have made the earth without color and had cookie cutter animals, but He chose to have a beautiful multicolored earth, with many different kinds of animals who live on it.  Verse 24 speaks of God’s works, and that they are done by His wisdom.

“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.”  This is 1Tim. 6:17 and in this verse we are to enjoy the things that God has given to us, and employ it wisely.

As believers in Jesus Christ we are to be responsible in caring for the earth, and so we should desire to do this even before it has become popular because of greed in today’s world.

In verse 25 we see the sea monsters playing in the sea, and other animals on the earth doing the same thing as God has made them to do.  These sea monsters even play with the ships as they said on the sea as verse 26 tells us.  It reminds me of seeing the dolphins swimming alongside the great ships as they sail on the sea.  We see in verse 27 that it was because of God’s wisdom in creating the earth that He provides food for the animals, and He has also provided food for us too.  Think about planting seeds in the ground and with the proper amount of water these seeds will turn into plants that produce more of the same kind of food.  You plant corn you get corn, you plant and apple seed you get an apple tree that produces apples all because of the wisdom of God.

I see in verses 28-30 the process of humans living and then dying, coming from dust as Adam did and then returning to dust as all men do when they die. We even see God’s wisdom in this process.

Dr. Wiersbe writes, “Knowing all this about God and His creation, we have some serious responsibilities to fulfill, and the first is glorifying the Lord (vv. 31-32).  Beginning with our own bodies and minds, our abilities and possessions, we must gratefully accept all He has graciously given us and use it to glorify Him, not to please ourselves (Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 4:7) “For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?”  Second, we must praise the Lord, the Creator.  What a marvelous gift is His creation! We need to get back to singing the great hymns and paraphrases of the psalms that exalt God the Creator.  The more we thank God, the less we will exploit His gifts.  Third, we should think about His creation and rejoice it (v. 34).  The study of natural science is but ‘thinking God’s thoughts after Him.’  If earth and sky are declaring the glory of God (19:1), we who have been saved by His grace ought to be glorifying Him even more!  Finally, we must pray for Christ’s return (v. 35), for only then will the curse of sin be lifted from creation (Rom. 8:18-25).  We must share the gospel with sinners so that they might be able to sing with us, ‘This is my Father’s world.’”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I believe that these four things that Dr. Wiersbe has brought to my attention is a good thing to do for it is good to think about God the Creator and praise Him for His wonderful works, for after all we all live in the world that He created.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to abide in the vine in order to be equipped to do the works that God has or me to do.
