PT-2 "Wisdom Protects Your Path (Pr. 2:10-22)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/5/2013 10:00 AM

My Worship Time                                                          Focus:  Wisdom Protects Your Path PT-2

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Proverbs 2:10-22

Message of the verses:  We will look at the second sub-point from the second chapter of Proverbs in today’s Spiritual Diary.

Walking with the wicked (vv. 10-19):  “10  For wisdom will enter your heart And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; 11 Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you, 12  To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things; 13  From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; 14 Who delight in doing evil And rejoice in the perversity of evil; 15  Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways; 16 To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words; 17 That leaves the companion of her youth And forgets the covenant of her God; 18 For her house sinks down to death And her tracks lead to the dead; 19  None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.”

What we see in this section is the evil man and the adulterous woman who both love what they do, but what they do leads to death.  We see that Solomon describes both of these types of people in this section, but also tells his son to follow the wisdom that he has been telling him about in order to avoid these types of people.  Both the flattering woman and the evil man provide much temptation to those who walk with the Lord, and so it is of necessity to follow wisdom, which also involves prayer in order to not fall to their temptation.  These types of people have no respect for the Lord but only care about themselves.  Paul writes the following in the book of Romans that describe these kinds of people:  and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.”

Walking with the righteous (vv. 20-22):  “20 So you will walk in the way of good men And keep to the paths of the righteous. 21 For the upright will live in the land And the blameless will remain in it; 22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land And the treacherous will be uprooted from it.”

Dr. Wiersbe points out that the chapter begins with the word “if” and then in verse nine we see the chapter continues with the word “then” and in verse twenty in the KJV we see the word “thus.”  So if we receive the Words of God and obey them then this will give wisdom to us so that we can make wise decisions then God will keep His promises and protect us from the wicked who are trying to tempt us.

When we look around the world today we may think that the wicked are winning the battle, and not the Lord, but all we have to do is read the last chapter in the Bible to see that in the end that all the wicked will be judged and the righteous will live with the Lord forever serving and worshiping Him.  Knowing this as Peter writes what kind of people should be be?

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  We live in a world that is bent on doing destructive things, and we were born with a sin nature that only wants to do the wrong things, but those of us who have been born from above into the family of God have a new nature given to us by our God, and we have the Holy Spirit living in us as a down payment of what will happen to us in eternity, and we have the Word of God to teach us and we have the Church to equip us and encourage us.  We have more going for us than against us and so we need to continue to stay in the Word of God as Solomon is teaching his son so that we can walk in God’s wisdom.

My Steps of Faith for Today:  Continue to learn contentment, continue to pray that the Lord will keep me from evil, and continue to have the Word of God transform me to be more like Jesus.

Memory verses for the week: Psalm 121:1-3

1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains, from where shall my help come?  2 My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.  3  He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.
