SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 01/31/2006
My Worship Time Focus: Eve’s Response
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Genesis 3:2
Message of the verse: “2 The
woman said to the serpent, ‘From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may
eat; 3 but from the fruit of the tree
which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it
or touch it, or you will die.’”
Verses two
and three give the response from Eve to Satan (the serpent), but the answer
that she gave him was not true at all, for at least she was misquoting
God. Genesis 2:16-17 tell what God said
to Adam: “16 The LORD God commanded the man, saying, ‘From
any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from
it you will surely die.’” Notice that
God said that they could eat freely
of all of the trees, and He said nothing about not looking at the tree of
knowledge of good and evil which is what Eve replied to Satan. Eve also used a different name for God, as
she used Elohim and not Jehovah, and she also left out the words “will surely”
as she said “you will die.”

9:11 AM In our Wednesday evening service
last night we were talking about this situation and the word “freely” came up
and it was stated that Satan was trying to show that God was not being fair to
Adam and Eve as He was trying to hold back good things from them. However the word “freely” shows that God had
given them access to eat of any tree in the garden with the exception of the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
God was not holding back on them, Satan was lying to them which
according to John 8:44 which says “You are of your
father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a
murderer from the beginning, and
does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he
speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the
father of lies.” 3/5/2020 9:16 AM
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Eve was careless when she spoke of the words
that God had said, and I am sure that there are times in my life when I
misquote the Lord because I do not take the time to make sure what I am saying
is totally true and this is wrong on my part.
The Word of God has brought conviction to my heart as I read
and studied it this morning.
My Steps of Faith
Today: Make sure that when I say
something that it is altogether true and not saying something to sensationalize
it. To trust the Lord to direct my paths
today, all of them, and to continue to learn contentment.
