"Knowledge of Christ" (Eph. 4:13-15a)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 4/7/2019 10:11 PM

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  Knowledge of Christ

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  Eph. 4:13-15a

Message of the verses:  13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love,”

We looked at the first result of following God’s pattern for building His church in our last SD, and so in today’s SD we will look at the second which is attaining the “knowledge of the Son of God.”  When Paul speaks of attaining the knowledge of Christ he is not talking about salvation knowledge, but what he is talking about is the deep knowledge (epignosis, full knowledge that is correct and accurate) and this comes through a relationship with Christ that can only come from prayer and faithful study of and also the obedience to God’s Word.  We have to remember that at the time of Paul’s writing this letter to the Ephesians that he had been a believer for a rather long times and saw things that believers today will not see this side of heaven, and yet Paul writes the following to the Philippian believers in Phil. 3:8-10, and 12:  “8  More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; 12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.

John MacArthur writes “Growing in the deeper knowledge of the Son of God is a life-long process that will not be complete until we see our Lord face-to-face.  That is the knowing of which Jesus spoke when He said, ‘My sheep hear My voice, and I know them” (John 10:27).  He was not speaking of knowing their identities but of knowing them intimately, and that is the way He wants His people also to know Him.”

Verse that goes along with yesterday’s quotation from Psalm 1:1-2 “How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the Law of the Lord and In His Law he meditates day and night.”
