My
Worship Time Focus:
PT-3 “Verses that Speak of The Expected One.”
I will
continue looking at MacArthur’s commentary this morning.
“Boas Ruth’s
kinsman-redeemer (Ruth 4:1-12) was a type of Christ, the redeemer of His people
(Matt. 1:21).”
(Ruth 4:1-12)
“ 1 ¶ Now Boaz had gone up to the gate and sat down
there. And behold, the redeemer, of whom Boaz had spoken, came by. So Boaz
said, "Turn aside, friend; sit down here." And he turned aside and
sat down. 2 And he took ten men of the
elders of the city and said, "Sit down here." So they sat down.
3 Then he said to the redeemer,
"Naomi, who has come back from the country of Moab, is selling the parcel
of land that belonged to our relative Elimelech. 4 So I thought I would tell you of it and say,
‘Buy it in the presence of those sitting here and in the presence of the elders
of my people.’ If you will redeem it, redeem it. But if you will not, tell me,
that I may know, for there is no one besides you to redeem it, and I come after
you." And he said, "I will redeem it." 5 Then Boaz said, "The day you buy the
field from the hand of Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, the widow of
the dead, in order to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance."
6 Then the redeemer said, "I cannot
redeem it for myself, lest I impair my own inheritance. Take my right of
redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it." 7 Now this was the custom in former times in
Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, the one
drew off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was the manner of attesting
in Israel. 8 So when the redeemer said
to Boaz, "Buy it for yourself," he drew off his sandal. 9 ¶ Then Boaz said to the elders and all the
people, "You are witnesses this day that I have bought from the hand of
Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and to
Mahlon. 10 Also Ruth the Moabite, the
widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife, to perpetuate the name of the
dead in his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from
among his brothers and from the gate of his native place. You are witnesses
this day." 11 Then all the people
who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD
make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, who
together built up the house of Israel. May you act worthily in Ephrathah and be
renowned in Bethlehem, 12 and may your
house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, because of the
offspring that the LORD will give you by this young woman.’”
(Matt. 1:21)
“21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to
name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
“Like
David, the shepherd king, the Messiah would come as a shepherd (John 10:11) and
King (Matt. 27:11; John 1:49; Rev. 17:14).)”
(John 10:11)
“11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep.”
(Matt. 27:11; John 1:49; Rev. 17:14)
“11 ¶ Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the
governor asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus said, “You have said
so.”
49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the
Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
“14 ¶ They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb
will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with
him are called and chosen and faithful."
“The
filling of the temple with God’s glory (1 Kings 8:10-11) provided a glimpse of
the glory of Jesus (John 1:14).”
(1 Kings 8:10-11)
“10 And when the priests came out of the Holy
Place, a cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11
so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud,
for the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.”
(John 1:14)
“14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of
grace and truth.”
“The
Expected One is the Son of God and King of Psalm2, the resurrected one of Psalm
16, the crucified one of Psalm 22, the shepherd of Psalm 23, and the betrayed
one of Psalm 41.
“Isaiah
predicted that the Messiah would be a light shining on those who walk in
darkness (9:2), be born of a virgin (7:14), bear exalted titles (9:6), be God
with us (7:14; cf. Matt. 1:23 “Behold,
the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name
Immanuel” (which means, God with us).3), be a descendant of David 11:1), and
sit on the throne (9:7). Isaiah also
described the crucifixion of Messiah and its profound theological implications
in chapter 53.”
(9:2)
“2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a
great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light
shone.”
(7:14)
“14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a
sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.”
Matt. 1:23
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a
son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
I will try
and finish this section in this evening’s SD as the power in our needihood was out
last night and so I could not get my SD written then.
Spiritual
Meaning for my Life Today: I am thankful for these verses that John MacArthur
has put in this section of his introduction as it helps me to see the
importance of reading the entire Bible to understand how the OT and the NT go
together.
My
Steps of Faith for Today: Trust the Lord to continue to guide me as I
live my life without my beloved mate who went to be with the Lord on the 29th
of July this year.
