He Commended Them (Josh. 22:1-3)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  He commended them

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  Joshua 22:1-3

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then Joshua called together the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. 2  He told them, "You have done as Moses, the servant of the LORD, commanded you, and you have obeyed every order I have given you. 3  You have not deserted the other tribes, even though the campaign has lasted for such a long time. You have been careful to obey the commands of the LORD your God up to the present day.”
This SD begins a new chapter in both the book of Joshua and also “Be Strong” which is Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on the book of Joshua.  He entitles this chapter “And When the Battle’s Over,” and the first section is called “Their honorable discharge.”  The first sub-section is today’s SD.
The men from the two and a half tribes from the other side of the Jordan River have been with Joshua for a long time, some seven years and now that the war is over Joshua is giving them a honorable discharge because they have kept their promise to Moses, to Joshua, and most of all to the Lord in fighting the enemies of Israel over the past seven years and now it was time for them to go home.  Joshua praises them in these first three verses of this chapter, and they deserved his praise.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  “23  Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24  knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”  These are wonderful words to follow and they fit in with this first lesson in Joshua 22.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Take off the old and put on the new.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service for today.
  3. Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
  4. Continue to learn contentment.
