SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: What the Lord did for Israel
Bible Reading &
Meditation Reference: Joshua 23:1-4
Message of the verses: “1 ¶
Now it came about after many days, when the LORD had given rest to
Israel from all their enemies on every side, and Joshua was old, advanced in
years, 2 that Joshua called for all
Israel, for their elders and their heads and their judges and their officers,
and said to them, "I am old, advanced in years. 3 "And you have seen all that the LORD
your God has done to all these nations because of you, for the LORD your God is
He who has been fighting for you. 4
"See, I have apportioned to you these nations which remain as an
inheritance for your tribes, with all the nations which I have cut off, from
the Jordan even to the Great Sea
toward the setting of the sun.”
Today’s SD
is the beginning of the last two chapters in the book of Joshua. It is the second to last chapter in Warren
Wiersbe’s commentary “Be Strong.” He
usually writes a review of the book for his last chapter going over some of the
things that have been learned from the study of the book he is writing on.
In these
two chapters there are two messages that Joshua gives to the children of Israel, which are taking place at the end of
Joshua’s life, so he has some very important things to say as he speaks to Israel. In the first message, which has three parts
to it as divided in “Be Strong,” Joshua goes over Israel’s future dangers and
the first part of this section is today’s SD, “What the Lord did for Israel.”
In verse
three Joshua makes a wonderful statement telling the children of Israel that it
is the Lord who has been fighting for them and thus that is why they are in the
land that God had promised to them.
Verse four
was kind of hard for me to understand and so I did some research on it from
some other sources and look at it in different versions of the Bible or which I
will copy and paste a couple here: “4 See, that I have {1} given to you these
nations that are left to you by lots to your tribes, all the nations beginning
at Jordan; and some I have destroyed; and {2} the boundaries shall be at the
great sea westward. {1) Gr. cast upon you 2) Gr. he shall bound}. (LXXE)” “4
"Stay alert: I have assigned to you by lot these nations that
remain as an inheritance to your tribes—these in addition to the nations I have
already cut down—from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west. (Message)”
“4. Behold, I have allotted to
you, as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, with all the
nations I have cut off, from the Jordan
to the Great Sea on the west. (Amplified Bible)”
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Verse four is a great verse that has truly
spoken to my heart this morning as I am doing this SD. God is telling the children of Israel through
Joshua, that He has been faithful to them in giving to them the land that they
have, by driving out those nations and will drive out the rest of the nations
too.
God has
saved me and when He did this He has given me a new nature along with the Holy
Spirit who is a down payment of the things that He has promised to give to
me. All of this takes faith to believe
it, and God has even given me the faith to believe it too. What a wonderful God I serve!
My Steps of Faith for
Today:
- Take off the old and put on the new.
- Put on the spiritual armor: The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and take up the Sword of the Spirit.
- Continue to learn contentment.
- Put on Christ’s yoke in order to be yoked with Him to find rest because of the inheritance that I already have in Him.
- Give myself to the Lord for worship and service for today.
- Trust the Lord to guide my path today.
- Think before acting.
