God's Salvation for His People (Judges 3:9-11)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                               Focus:  God’s salvation for his people

Bible Reading & Meditation                             Reference:  Judges 3:9-11

Message of the verses:  “9  When the sons of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for the sons of Israel to deliver them, Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. 10  The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel. When he went out to war, the LORD gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand, so that he prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim. 11  Then the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.”
There are a couple of points that has come from this section of Scripture:  The first point is that there does not seem to be any repentance when the children of Israel called out to the Lord for help.  The second point is that God chose a man whom He filled with the Holy Spirit to do this job, and it is good to be reminded that the Holy Spirit did not indwell every believer in the OT as He does in the NT, and He could even come onto a person and then leave them as He did Saul, the first king of Israel.
As far as Othniel is concerned there is no way to prove whether or not he was Caleb’s brother of nephew, but he surely came from good stock as the family of Caleb were very close in their walk with the Lord and they were truly obedient to the Lord for Caleb along with Joshua were the only two spies who gave the right report.
Zech. 4:6 reads as follows:  “6  Then he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I hope that at the end of my life I will not have to look back and say that my life has been a waste, and that I did not take advantage of being indwelt with the third Person of the Godhead, the Blessed Holy Spirit.  It is a command to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit, and in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit one has to have his life in order doing what the Lord has for Him to do.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Be continually filled with the Holy Spirit to be used of the Lord.
  2. Give myself to the Lord for worship and service for today.
  3. Continue to trust the Lord to guide my path each day.
  4. Learn continually to be content each day.
