SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: A humble heart
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 1 Samuel 3:15-18
Message of the verses: “15 So
Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the
LORD. But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli. 16 Then Eli called Samuel and said,
"Samuel, my son." And he said, "Here I am." 17 He said, "What is the word that He spoke
to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and more also, if
you hide anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you." 18 So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing
from him. And he said, "It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good to
Him.’”
One
of the things that I really appreciate about Warren Wiersbe is how he will open
up things in the Scripture that I would never think of and there is something
in one of his footnotes seems important enough to quote here. “Samuel would have a ministry of ‘opening
doors’ for others. He opened the doors
of kingship to Saul, who failed to use it for God’s glory, and also to David,
who used his position to serve God and the people. Samuel established a school of the prophets
and opened doors of ministry to prophets and opened doors of ministry to the
men God sent to him. He opened the doors
to new beginning for the nation of Israel that was at low ebb both
spiritually and politically.” This not
is of course a reference to verse fifteen where it is told that Samuel opened
the doors of the house of the Lord which is something that he must have been
doing for sometime.
There
is one thing that I wish to comment on that Samuel did here, something that I
know that I would have had trouble with, and that is that Samuel did not say a
word to Eli about what would happen to him and to his sons, but Samuel just got
up and begin to do his work that he would normally do. Samuel as written in an earlier SD was
probably about twelve years old and this would probably be hard for a normal
twelve year old boy to not tell what he had just learned, especially from the
Lord, yet Samuel was not a normal young man, but a young man who just became a
believer in the Lord, and a young man who would do some wonderful things for
the Lord in his life.
As
far as Eli there were things that he did for Samuel that if he would have done
for his own sons perhaps things would have turned out better. To Eli’s credit he still had a strong zeal
for the tabernacle and wanted to protect it at all costs, and another thing is
that the way he conducted himself after told by Samuel what would happen to him
seems kind of hard for me to believe after learning all the things that the
Lord was so upset about concerning Eli.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: I want to be more like Samuel in keeping
things to myself until someone asks me about certain things. Samuel was closed mouth and did not talk too
much, something I desire to do in my life.
My Steps of Faith for Today:
1. Pr 10:19 ¶ Too much talk leads to sin.
Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.
