The Protection of the Lord (1 Samuel 2:8b-10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The protection of the Lord

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  1 Sam. 2:8b-10

Message of the verses:  “He lifts the needy from the ash heap To make them sit with nobles, And inherit a seat of honor; For the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, And He set the world on them.  9  "He keeps the feet of His godly ones, But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness; For not by might shall a man prevail.  10  ‘Those who contend with the LORD will be shattered; Against them He will thunder in the heavens, The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed.’”

There are two more sub-titles to this section on Hannah’s prayer and I have chosen to do both of them this morning.  These come from Dr. Wiersbe’s outline of 1Samuel “Be Successful.”

The patience of God is seen in this first section which goes from 8a-10a, patience of waiting to judge the evil things that evil men have done.  It may seem like God is not on His throne, but make no mistake about it God is on His throne, and He will judge this world some day according to His Truth, the Gospel of His Son.

The second sub-section that I am doing today is called “The reign of the Lord,” and it covers the last part of verse ten, “The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; And He will give strength to His king, And will exalt the horn of His anointed.”  This last part of verse ten is an incredible statement and shows that Hannah knew the Word of God.  Way back in the book of Genesis after God had chosen Abraham, He told Abraham and Sarah that kings would come out of them, and then at the end of Genesis Jacob told his sons that Judah would be the tribe that the King would come from, and later on God would tell David that the Messiah would come from his linage, of course something that Hannah did not know.  However her son, Samuel would be the one who would anoint the first and second king of Israel and the second one would be David.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I look at the prayer of Hannah I am soo much impressed of the spirituality that she shows in her life and impressed that she would be used of the Lord to write such a wonderful prayer, a prayer similar to Mary’s prayer found in Luke.  Hannah was the one who gave birth to Samuel who would anoint David and Mary was the one who gave birth to the Lord Jesus Christ the promised King of Israel that Hannah mentions in her prayer.

I see from this prayer that God has a plan and He is in complete control of this earth and the events that are even taking place now in our country and also in the life of my family, and this comforts me greatly.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.     Now since I realize that God has a plan and is in control of the world, this country, and my family, I don’t need to be fearful, but trusting in the wonderful Lord God of heaven and earth.
