SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                        Focus:  The majesty of the Lord

Bible Reading & Meditation                        Reference:  1 Sam. 2:2-3

Message of the verses:  “2  "There is no one holy like the LORD, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God. 3  "Boast no more so very proudly, Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; For the LORD is a God of knowledge, And with Him actions are weighed.”  (NASB)  “2  No one is holy like the LORD!  There is no one besides you;  there is no Rock like our God. 3  “Stop acting so proud and haughty!  Don’t speak with such arrogance! For the LORD is a God who knows what you have done;  he will judge your actions.”  (NLT)

I really love the way that Dr. Wiersbe breaks down this prayer that Hannah had prayed to the Lord, for in this prayer there are some very deep things, things that need to be seen in order to understand what this prayer is all about.  So I will try and break this prayer down with the help of the commentary that Warren Wiersbe has written.

Hannah begins by saying that there is no one like the Lord and the word for Lord is Yahweh, which is the word that is translated Jehovah and means self-existing one.

Hannah begins her prayer by praising the Lord, which is a good way to begin a prayer to the Lord unless one would want to confess their sins first in order to be in good fellowship with the Lord, and then begin to praise Him, for when you praise Him it helps the focus on the glory of the Lord and then our needs do not seem as great.

Hannah then speaks of God’s holiness and the holiness of God is speaking of his otherness, or His uniqueness as holiness and uniqueness are all about God.  She then moves on to use the word rock, and this depicts the strength of the Lord and is used in many different prayers that are found in the Scriptures.  I will look at one of the places that this word is use that is found in 2Samuel 22:32 which is a part of David’s song, “For who is God, besides the LORD? And who is a rock, besides our God?”

Next we see the Lord as the God of knowledge and this fits right into one of the attributes of the Lord, that of His omniscient, God knowing everything.  God knew the words that Peninnah had said about Hannah, for example, and God knows the words that I speak of wrongly about others when I am mad too.

Next God speaks of God being judge, and when God judges it will be fair, even when I stand before Him at the judgment seat of Christ to judge the things that I have done while in this body.  God is equitable and will always judge righteously.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  When I understands the things about God that are spoken of in this section of Scripture then it causes me to think about some of the things that I have done that are sinful and hopefully I will be thinking about them in the future and not repeat these things.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Psalm 139:23-24 are verses that I want to remember each day as they are verses that I need to think about each and everyday.  “23  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24  And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”
  2. I want to remember the holiness of God and that He knows all things and is all powerful and by remembering these things then I will live my life in a way that will be more pleasing to Him.
