SPIRITUAL DIARY
My Worship Time Focus: Naaman needed the Lord
Bible Reading
& Meditation Reference: 2Kings 5:1-3
Message of the verses: “1 ¶
Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man
with his master, and highly respected, because by him the LORD had given
victory to Aram. The man was also a valiant warrior, but he was a leper. 2 Now the Arameans had gone out in bands and
had taken captive a little girl from the land of Israel; and she waited on
Naaman’s wife. 3 She said to her
mistress, "I wish that my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria!
Then he would cure him of his leprosy.’”
“Be
Distinct” is the name of Dr. Warren Wiersbe’s commentary on 2Kings and
2Chronicles and he has entitled this third chapter “Three Men-Three
Miracles.” The chapter covers all of the
fifth chapter of 2Kings and the first seven chapters of chapter six of
2Kings. The first point that he makes in
this chapter is entitled “Nathan-ministry received,” and in today’s SD I will
cover the first sub-point under this first main point of his book.
The
prophet Elijah is mentioned a total of twenty-nine times in the NT, while
Elisha is only mentioned one time and it is the healing of Naaman, the captain
of the Syrian army, who is healed from being a leper is what Elisha is
mentioned about. Jesus mentions this
story very briefly when preaching to a congregation at Nazareth, and afterwards
the people tried to kill the Lord.
Naaman was a Gentile, who was a leper, and he was an enemy of the nation
of Israel, yet the grace of God extended to this man Naaman and he became a
witness of the One True God of Israel when he returned to Syria. How did this all come about? Well after capturing a small girl from Israel
who served Naaman’s wife the little girl told Naaman’s wife that there was a
prophet living in Israel who could heal Naaman of his leprosy and she told
Naaman who told the king. Dr. Wiersbe writes
this about how this came about: “Never
underestimate the power of a simple witness, for God can take words from the
lips of a child and carry them to the ears of a king.”
My Steps of Faith for Today: I can never underestimate the power of being a
witness for the Lord, and even though at times, it seems like I am doing
nothing for the Lord, He can take, what I would think are insignificant words
and by His power use them to bring someone to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ.
My Steps of Faith
for Today:
1.
Remember the battle is raging on and I am in need of
the spiritual armor.
2.
Never miss an opportunity to be a witness for the
Lord, for He can use it for His glory.
3.
Continue to learn contentment.
4.
Be humble, for what I have from the Lord I do not
deserve.
5.
Keep my mind clean.
