SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  Compromise

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  2Kings 10:29-36

Message of the verses:  “29 ¶  However, as for the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin, from these Jehu did not depart, even the golden calves that were at Bethel and that were at Dan. 30  The LORD said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in executing what is right in My eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in My heart, your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel." 31  But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the LORD, the God of Israel, with all his heart; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel sin. 32  In those days the LORD began to cut off portions from Israel; and Hazael defeated them throughout the territory of Israel: 33  from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the  and the Reubenites and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan. 34  Now the rest of the acts of Jehu and all that he did and all his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 35  And Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son became king in his place. 36  Now the time which Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.”

The prophet Hosea writes in his book that the Lord told him to name one of his children Jezreel because Jehu had committed many murders in that city and the Lord was about to end the kingdom of the North.  Jehu would reign for twenty-eight years and his dynasty would reign for 100 years, but he was not totally committed to the Lord, for the passage above says that he followed in the path of Jeroboam and worshiped the caves that jeroboam had made to remind the people of the true God, but were actually idols and so was Jehu.  The phrase with all his heart sums up the life of Jehu, for he did not follow the Lord, the God of Israel with all of his heart.  It is a shame that Jehu has to be remembered for the murders that he had committed, and not for bringing revival to the northern tribes of Israel, but then again none of the kings of Israel did that, for they were all bad kings.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:   I know that there are times when I do not follow the Lord with all of my heart, and this is painful for me to think about the times when I have not followed the Lord with all of my heart.  I surely do not want to be remembered for not following the Lord with all of my heart.  I am in a pretty difficult situation at this time as I am out of work, and there is tension in our home, and we do not have a church to help us with these situations that we find ourselves in.  I remember praying for many months about whether or not to go on this job, and I remember that I would have been just as happy to stay home and never to come here, but it seems that for God’s own reasons that we came, and when it gets tough then I have to remember that since I believe that the Lord sent us here He still has a plan for us here, and I am to be content with what is going on at this time in my life trust the Lord to work it out for our good and for His glory.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.      Continue to trust the Lord, continue to learn contentment.

2.      Remember that the battle is fierce and I need the spiritual armor so that I can stand.
