Love (Heb. 13:1)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 07-23-03

My Worship Time                  Focus:  Love

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Hebrews 13:1

            1.  Message of the verse:  “1 Let love of the brethren continue.”  (NASB)  “Continue to love one another with true Christian love.”  (NLT)

The word translated for “brotherly love” in this verse is Philadelphia, and Strongs says this of this word:  “in the NT the love which Christians cherish for each other as brethren.”  The love that a believer has for a brother in the Lord is different than loving an unsaved family member.  The writer will go on in these next few verses to write more on this subject, actually putting “shoe leather” on the subject, but for now in this verse he brings up the subject.  I am sure that for many of these early Hebrew believers had been rejected by their families and were in much need of brotherly love from those in their church family.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Brotherly love is a major part of what living out the Christian life is all about.  Today I can think of the pain that Wade is going through over his love for his granddaughter and I want to be able to help him through this because he is a brother in the Lord and a good friend of mine.  I will continue to pray about this and will be available to help out in any way that I can.  To me this is an example of brotherly love in action.

The Word of God has been both refreshing, a challenge and convicting to me as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To trust the Lord that He will work out this storm in Wade’s life that he is going through at this time with Cara.

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 121:1-5

1.      I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From whence shall my help come?

2.      My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

3.      He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

4.      Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5.      The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
