Serve the Lord with Reverence (Heb. 12:28-29)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 07-22-03

My Worship Time                  Focus:  Serve the Lord with reverence

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Hebrews 12:28-29

            1.  Message of the verse:  “28 Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; 29 for our God is a consuming fire.”  (NASB)  “Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be destroyed, let us be thankful and pleas God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.  For our God is a consuming fire.”  (NLT)

The writer uses the word “therefore” to remind us of the things he has been speaking about.  In other words he is saying, “in light of the promise that we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken we should live a life that shows gratitude to the Lord by offering up to Him our acceptable service with reverence and awe, and the reason for this is that our God is a consuming fire.”  You cannot be near a consuming fire without getting burnt.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  These verses have been speaking to my heart and convicting me that the Lord must be the center of my life and not me.  It is hard for me to describe how I feel about this other than to say that I know that I do not give the reverence to the Lord that is due Him.  God has done everything for me that is needed for my salvation and because of this wonderful gift I owe Him all.

The Word of God was very convicting to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To serve the Lord with reverence and awe.

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 121:1-5

1.      I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From whence shall my help come?

2.      My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

3.      He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

4.      Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5.      The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade on your right hand.
