Fight the Good Fight (1 Tim. 6:12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6-28-02

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Fight the good fight

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Timothy 6:12

Message of the verse:  “12  Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”  The Greek word that is translated “fight,” is translated “agonize” in the English.  It was used in the military and also used in athletics.  Paul was telling Timothy to agonize over the battle in which all believers are in, and that is with our foes in the spiritual darkness.  Paul then goes on to tell Timothy to take hold of the eternal life to which he was called.  Paul wanted Timothy to get a grip on the reality of the matters associated with eternal life.  He next tells Timothy the importance of being able to have a good confession about eternal life and the things that pertain to it.  Jesus Christ had a good confession of faith when He was on trial for His life.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It is a good idea for me to follow all of the things that are in this verse, to fight the good fight to realize that I too need to have a good confession of faith to live and to tell others about.  I need to know the things that pertain to salvation.

I have been instructed by the Word of God today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To do a better job of getting my devotions done.
