The Necessities of Life (1 Tim. 6:8)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 6-23-02

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  The necessities of life

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Timothy 6:8

Message of the verse:  “8  If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.”  Paul continues his discussion on contentment in this verse.  He says that if a person has the basic necessities of life this should bring contentment to him.  It, however seems, that the more people have the more that they want.  Contentment comes from God, and knowing that He is in control of the things in ones life because He is God and He is in control.  These basic previsions are what we are instructed to pray for in the “Lord’s prayer.”

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I don’t think that this passage is saying that there is anything wrong with money or the things that money can buy, however the key thing that is stated here is to be content, and contentment can only come from God.  I do not need feel guilty over the blessing that God has given to me, but I don’t want these blessings to own me.

The Word of God was refreshing and convicting to me today.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want the Lord to continue to work on my heart concerning contentment, as He has gotten my attention.

Memory verses for the week:  Romans 5:20,21

Moreover the law entered that the offence might abound.  But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
