Hold on to the Righteous Things (Rev. 2:24-25)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 03/04/2005

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Hold on to the Righteous Things

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Revelations 2:24- 25

Message of the verse:  “But I also have a message for the rest of you in Thyatira who have not followed this false teaching (‘deeper truths,’ as they call them—depths of Satan, really). I will ask nothing more of you except that you hold tightly to what you have until I come.”  (NLT)  “But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them—I place no other burden on you.  Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come.”  (NAS95)

Jesus calls the things that those who have followed the teachings of Jezebel the “deep things of Satan” and this could refer to the things that Jezebel taught the children of Israel, to mix Baal worship with the worship of the One True God of Israel.  This teaching also taught that the things done in the body were okay because the body was evil at any rate.

There were those who did not hold to these truths and Jesus said that He would not put anything else on them except to hold onto those things until He would come for them at the Rapture of the Church.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There are many good and righteous things to follow as I look at them in these first four letters to these churches, and there are many things to stay away from too.  Like Jesus said to His disciples the night He was betrayed “the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak,” and as the man said to Jesus when He came down from the mountain, “Lord I believe, help thou my unbelief.”

The Word of God has been a challenge to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To follow the Lord and to listen to His Spirit, and to obey His Spirit as He speaks to my heart today.
