Perfect Understanding (Rev. 2:23)

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Perfect Understanding

 

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Revelations 2:23

 

            Message of the verse:  “And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.”  (NAS95)  “I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.”  (NLT)

            The Lord said in this verse that He will kill her children with pestilence and this seems to be saying that one day God will judge all those who follow this practice.  As far as speaking of the children, this could mean the second generation of church goers from this church who follow this evil practice.  This could also be speaking of all those who will follow this practice throughout the church age.  There are some to believe that each of these churches represents how the church behavior will be throughout the church age, and this church could represent the “dark ages.”

            Jesus goes on to tell them that He is the one who searches the minds and hearts, as the description of Christ in the first part of this letter would show this with His piercing eyes and also the bronze feet which represent judgment.  Jesus Christ knows every heart and mind and He will search every heart and mind. 

 

            Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Jesus Christ has perfect understanding of my heart, and He is the One who can search me, as David wrote in the 139^th Psalm.  His judgments are perfect and righteous, and because He took my judgment upon the cross I will never need to fear the eternal judgment to come. 

 

The Word of God has been refreshing to my heart today because I know the Jesus Paid It All.

 

My Steps of Faith Today:  As I think about the situation that I find myself in because of my investments with Andrew, and now that he is in jail again, it might be the best thing to move on and do something that will help me get out of the financial problems that I have, and I want to totally trust the Lord to lead and guide me through this troubled time in my life.
