God's Judgment and God's Spirit (Rev. 4:5)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 04/13/2005

My Worship Time                                              Focus:  God’s Judgment & God’s Spirit

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Revelations 4:5

Message of the verse:  “Out from the throne come flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.”  (NAS95)  “And from the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder. And in front of the throne were seven lampstands with burning flames. They are the seven spirits of God.”  (NLT)

In the first part of this verse God’s judgment can be seen in the flashes of lightning and the sounds and peals of thunder.  As the book of Revelations unfolds it can be seen that God’s judgment is a major theme in this book, as His patience has run it’s course and thus the cup of His wrath is full, which signifies that it is time for His judgment to fall upon those on the earth who have not put their trust in the One who took their judgment for them, the Lord Jesus Christ.  The lightning and thunder signify that a storm is coming.

The last part of this verse speaks of seven lamps of fire and also the seven Spirits of God.  This is not the first time that these lampstands have been mentioned by John, for they were seen in the first chapter and verses twelve and thirteen.  The 20th verse in chapter on tells the reader that the seven lampstands are the seven churches.  In this verse it is revealed that the seven lampstands which are around the throne are the seven Spirits of God.  I believe that this could mean the seven-fold aspects of the Holy Spirit, for there is only One Holy Spirit.  I am not sure if there is any thing that will connect the seven lampstands in chapter one with the seven lampstands in chapter four except that it is the Holy Spirit who indwells all of those who are a part of the NT Church.

The Word of God was challenging to my heart as I studied it this morning.
