SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 09-25-2006
My Worship Time Focus: Faith and Promise
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: Genesis 21:1-7
Message of the verse: “1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.
6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.
7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.”
In this chapter of Dr. Wiersbe’s book he explains that in this section of Scripture we can learn something about Christian Doctrine and how to live the Christian life, so that is where the “focus” will come from.
There are four points in the text of this message giving what it meant for the birth of Isaac, Abraham and Sarah’s son: 1. His birth meant the fulfillment of God’s promise; 2. the rewarding of patience; 3. the revelations of God’s power; and 4. a step forward in the accomplishing of God’s purpose.
God had promised Abraham and Sarah a son and He fulfilled that promise when Isaac was born to them. Abraham and Sarah, though at times were not faithful to the Lord, did believe His promises and now were rewarded for that faith. Abraham and Sarah were in and of themselves “dead” as far as being able to conceive a child on their own, so this was a miracle from the Lord. Isaac was part of the path to which the promised “seed of the woman” would be born from who would be God’s promised Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Dr. Wiersbe points out some things that were very meaningful to me this morning as I read them. There are times when I do feel that what I am doing is not a lot for the cause of Christ, and like Abraham and Sarah I fall to temptation much more that I wish I would, and so I get discouraged, yet by reading and studying their stories it does give me hope that there are times when I am doing the will of the Lord, and when I sin I must remember to confess my sins and remember that the victorious Christian life is a series of new beginnings.
The Word of God has been very refreshing and challenging to me as I read and studied it this morning.
My Steps of Faith Today: To keep reading and to keep believing and to keep studying and to keep doing the will of the Lord in my life.
