Standing up to his Neighbor (Gen. 21:25-26)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 09/19/2006

My Worship Time                                                     Focus:  Standing up to his Neighbor

Bible Reading & Meditation                                              Reference:  Genesis 21:25-26

Message of the verse:  “25 But Abraham complained to Abimelech because of the well of water which the servants of Abimelech had seized.  26 And Abimelech said, ‘I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor did I hear of it until today.’”

In these two brief verses it can be seen that Abraham would stand up to his neighbor, Abimelech because of the important issue of water.  Abimelech servants had seized Abraham’s wells, but Abimelech claims that he knew nothing about it, which may or may not be true.  The important thing is that Abraham stood up to Abimelech, which was the right thing to do.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  It seems that Abraham was firm, yet not mean or treating to Abimelech when confronting him over the issue of water.  Abraham was standing up to what was true and right, and at times I have trouble doing this because of fear, which is not right.

The Word of God has been a real challenge to me as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To trust the Lord to give me the strength to stand up for the right things in my life, and not to be fearful of anything but the Lord, for He is my Rock and my Shield.
