Isaac Intercedes for his Wife (Gen. 25:21)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 11-03-2006

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Isaac Intercedes for his Wife

Bible Reading & Meditation                                         Reference:  Genesis 25:21

Message of the verse:  “21  Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.”

The book of Genesis has a lot of waiting recorded in it:  Abraham waited to have Isaac, and Isaac waited to have children, and Jacob waited to pay for his two wives, and Joseph waited to have his family reunited to him.  Prayer was going up to the Lord on behalf of Rebekah from her husband and she finally conceived and this was an answer to prayer.  True prayer is not to get earths will done in heaven, but to get heavens will done on earth.  I would suppose that there were different reasons for the delay, or what seemed like a delay, to the prayers, but God’s timing is always perfect.

I have read in Genesis that God was going to punish the people who were living in the land that He would give to the Hebrews, but as yet there iniquity had not yet been completed that God would judge them.  Perhaps this was part of the reason for these delays in Genesis.  Learning patience is also another reason for the seemingly delays, and all of these people learned patience.  Learning to lean on the promises of God and to trust Him may have also been reason for these delays too.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I read verse 21 in Genesis it only takes a few short seconds to read it yet it took 20 years for this to happen and I am sure that it seemed much longer to Isaac and Rebekah.  I know that it seems like a really long time for Kim and Tim in there trial or test from the Lord as it seems like a long time in our trial and test, yet God is teaching all of us wonderful truths and making those truths real in our lives so that when the answer comes from the Lord all of us will be ready to have a praise party to the Lord.

The Word of God has been both refreshing and challenging to my heart as I read and studied it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To continue to rely upon the promises of God, and to continue to trust in Him and His Word as I go through this test that He has given to me.  To continue to seek to learn contentment and to have the Lord direct my paths.
