A Type (Heb. 8:5)

SPIRITUALL DIARY

My Worship Time                 Focus:  A Type

Bible Reading & Meditation                                    Reference:  Hebrews 8:5

            1.  Message of the verse:  “Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.”  (KJV)  “They serve in a place of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven.  For when Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this warning:  “Be sure that you make everything according to the design I have shown you here on the mountain.”  (NLT)

            I want to give the definition of the Greek word that we get our English word type from as given in the Strong’s Concordance:  “in a doctrinal sense: of a type i.e. a person or thing prefiguring a future (Messianic) person or thing.”  There are many different “types” in the OT, however from what I have learned about them they must be said they are a type in the NT to really be qualified to be types.  For instance Joseph had things in his life that seemed to be similar to the things that happened to the Lord Jesus Christ’s life while He was on the earth, but the NT does not say that he is type of Christ.  Joseph was put down in a hole and was sold for money by his brethren, things that happened to Christ while on the earth.

            Now in the case of this verse Moses was given a “blueprint” of the tabernacle while He was on the mountain to build which was a type of the heavenly one.  Now people do not agree as to whether there is an actual tabernacle in heaven or not.  John Macarthur says this about this verse:  “This does not mean that there are actual buildings in heaven which were copied in the tabernacle, but rather that the heavenly realities were adequately symbolized and represented in the earthly tabernacle model.”   The point is that the OT priest only served in a temporary tabernacle that was a shadow of the true one that Jesus Christ now serves in.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I can understand why people in the OT did not understand the true reason as to why the Law was given or as to why the Temple and all of its sacrifices were there for, because as I look at it I would not be able to understand all of this unless the Lord had given the true meaning to the NT writers as to what the real meaning of this is.  This goes to show me that it is the Lord who has to give me true meaning for these very important things concerning my walk with Him, other wise I would not know what the true meaning of life is all about.

The Word of God was refreshing, and challenging to my heart this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  I want the Lord to develop more courage and compassion in my life as I serve Him today.

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 40:4-8

4.      How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

5.      Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts toward us; There is none to compare to Thee; If I would declare and speak of them, they would be too numerous to count.

6.      Sacrifice and meal offering Thou hast not required; My ears Thou hast opened; Burnt offering and sin offering Thou hast not required.

7.      Then I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me;

8.      I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my heart.
