Christ Serves in Heaven (Heb. 8:4)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

                                                                                                            Date:  04-03-03

My Worship Time                  Focus:  Christ serves in heaven

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Hebrews 8:4

            1.  Message of the verse:  “4 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law;”  (NASB)  “If he were here on earth, he would not even be a priest, since there already are priests who offer the gifts required by the law of Moses.”  (NLT)

            The writer again brings up the point that Jesus Christ would not be a priest here on earth because He was born in the tribe of Judah.  He does say that there were priests at the time of his writing who were then offering sacrifices according to the Law of Moses, which indicates that the letter was written before the temple was destroyed in A.D. 70.  Jesus Christ is serving in heaven as our great High Priest.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I stated before concerning the Priesthood of Jesus Christ that God had this all planned out from eternity past that Jesus Christ would not only be The High Priest, but would also offer Himself as the sacrifice for my sins.  There are times when I see things only one way and do not want to look at them another way and thus miss out on something that would be good for me.  I am not always right, but God is and thus I need to continue to trust Him to lead me and not lean on my own understanding.

The Word of God did bring some challenges to me today along with convicting me too.

My Steps of Faith Today:  As I was praying yesterday morning I believe that the Lord would have me to be more like Jesus in having more courage and compassion.  This is a result of the daily devotions from Moody:  “Today in the Word.”

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 40:4-8

4.      How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, and has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.

5.      Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which Thou hast done, and thy thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with Thee; If I would declare and think of them, they would be too numerous too count.

6.      Sacrifice and meal offering Thou hast not desired; My ears Thou hast opened; Burnt offering and sin offering Thou hast not required.

7.      The I said, “Behold, I come in the scroll of the book it is written of me;

8.      I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my heart.
