My
Worship Time Focus: Problem with the old
covenant
Bible
reading & Meditation Reference: Hebrews 8:7
1. Message of the verse: “For if that first covenant had been
faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second.” (NASV)
“If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need
for a second covenant to replace it.
(NLT)
The
question to answer concerning this verse is what was the fault of the old
covenant? I would say that the problem
with the OT Law was that it could not save anyone. The Bible says that the Law is perfect, “So
then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.” (Romans 7:12)
Hebrews 7: 19 “ (for the Law made nothing perfect), and on the other
hand there is a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to
God.” As stated above the Law made
nothing perfect and there in lies the problem or the fault with it. Because man has a sin nature he cannot keep
the law. It is only by God’s grace given
to us in the New Covenant, through the blood of Jesus Christ that can save us.
2. Spiritual meaning for my life today: I would suppose that there are times when I
act like the Law can save me, in other words I am trying on my own to do
something to please God. I know that to
do things that will please God I must do them in the power of His Holy Spirit,
and by His leading.
The Word of God has brought conviction to my heart today.
My
Steps of Faith Today: I
want to trust the Lord to fill me with His compassion and courage as I live my
life today.
Memory verses for this week: Psalm 40:4-9
4.
How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust, and
has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.
5.
Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which Thou hast done,
And Thy thoughts toward us; There is none to compare to Thee; If I would
declare and think of them, They would be too numerous to count.
6.
Sacrifice and meal offering Thou hast not desired; My ears
Thou hast opened; Burnt offering and sin offering Thou hast not required.
7.
Then I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it
is written of me;
8.
I delight to do Thy will, O my God; Thy Law is within my
heart.
9.
I have proclaimed glade tidings of righteousness in the
great congregation; Behold, I will not restrain my lips, O LORD Thou
knowest.
