PT-1 Their Reveling (2 Peter 2:10-12)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 04/10/2004

My Worship Time                                                                              Focus:  PT-1 Their Reveling

Bible Reading & Meditation                                                 Reference:  2 Peter 2:10-12

Message of the verses:  “10 and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties, 11 whereas angels who are greater in might and power do not bring a reviling judgment against them before the Lord. 12 But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed,”

Pride is the picture we see here.  Pride causes people to build themselves up by tearing others down so that they will look better.  They have no respect for the authority of others and are not afraid to attack and defame people who are in high positions.

As we read the word of God we can see that God has set up or better yet established authority in this world and when we resist authority the One we are resting is God.  Paul writes about this to the Romans in Romans 13:1 and in the following verses of that letter.  We also see in the Word of God that parents have authority over children as seen in Ephesians 6:1-4 and employers over employees as seen in Ephesians 6:5-8.  Paul tells Timothy and thus tells believers that we are to pray for those who have authority over us and Peter tells us we are to have respect for those who are in authority over us.  Dr. Wiersbe writes “As members of a local assembly, we should honor those who have the spiritual rule over us and seek to encourage them in their ministry (Heb. 13:7, 17; 1 Peter 5:1-6).

“Human government is, in one sense, God’s gift to help maintain order in the world, so that the church may minister the Word and win the lost to Christ (1 Tim. 2:1-8).  We should pray daily for those in authority so that they might exercise that authority in the will of God.  It is a serious thing for a Christian to oppose the law, and he must be sure he is in the will of God when he does it.  He should also do it in a manner that glorifies Christ, so that innocent people (including unsaved government employees) might not be made to suffer.”

As we look at the situation that is going on in North Korea in today’s world we must be on our knees before the Lord so that the leaders that God has given us will be in the will of God in what they do for this great problem that not only affects our country but many other countries who have a desire to live in peace.
