SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR

My Worship Time Focus: Noah
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Peter 2:5
Message of the
verse: “5 and did not spare the
ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven
others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;”
We are looking at the first sub-point under the main
point “The True Believers Delivered,” and we will look at Noah this morning,
and then we will look at Lot, which will take a couple of days in our next few
SD’s.
What happened during the life of Noah changed the world physically
in a very large way as the earth was very much different when Noah was born,
but after the flood the world was what we could say a different planet after
the flood. You see if you look at the
life span of people before the flood it was much longer than after the flood as
the planet had a water cover over it to protect the earth from the sun’s
radiation and thus caused people to live much longer. When the flood came that water barrier broke
and fell upon planet earth along with the waters of the deep coming up thus
causing a worldwide flood which has changed our earth physically very
much. It did not rain before the flood,
as there was no need of rain as the water came up from the earth to water
things so they could grow. The entire
earth had a tropical effect as even today tropical fossils can be found at the
North and South polls. This was the kind
of world that Noah lived on for over five-hundred years and in the span of 40
days it all changed.
It took Noah and his sons 120 years to build the ark that
would save he and his family from the judgment of planet earth by the flood as
they would tell other that judgment was on the way, but in the end no one would
listen to them.
Dr. Wiersbe points out that this man of faith experienced
a twofold deliverance. The first
deliverance was from the pollutions of the world around him. As mentioned he preached righteousness for 120
years while the ark was being built, telling others that the world was going to
be judged with a flood. Dr. Wiersbe
writes “Through Jesus Christ, we too have ‘escaped the corruption that is in
the world through lust’ (2 Peter 1:4).”
When we studied the 17th chapter of John we
read what Jesus prayed, “I pray not that You should take them out of the world,
but that You should keep them from the evil one” (John 17 15). Keeping them from the evil one is keeping
them from evil, and this is what the Lord dif for Noah and his family even
finding believing wives for his three sons.
Next we see that God also delivered Noah and his family
from the judgment of the world. Dr.
Wiersbe writes “The flood waters that brought condemnation to the world only
lifted Noah and his household up above the judgment. They were secure in the ark of safety. In his first epistle, Peter had seen in the
ark a type of our salvation in Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:20-22) The world, as it is were, was ‘buried’ in the
baptism of the Flood, but Noah was lifted up, a picture of resurrection and
salvation.”
Wiersbe continues, “Certainly Peter was assuring his
readers that, when the great day of judgment does come, they will be kept
safe. Jesus Christ is our ‘ark of safety.’ He delivers us from the wrath to come (1
Thes. 1:10). God has promised that the
earth will never again be judged by water, but there is coming a judgment of
fire (2 Peter 3:10ff). But those who have
trusted Christ will never face judgment (John 5:24), because He bore their judgment
on the cross.”
