My Worship Time Focus: PT-4 It
Involves a False Experience
Bible Reading & Meditation Reference: 2 Peter
2:21-22
Message of the
verses: “21 For it would be better for them not to have
known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the
holy commandment handed on to them. 22 It has happened to them according to the
true proverb, "A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT," and, "A sow,
after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."”
Perhaps as you have been reading this verses and then
reading the things that I have been writing about concerning these verses you may
have wondered if I was going to talk about the possibility of a person actually
becoming a believer and then turning away from Christ and are once again
lost. Some may get that idea from here,
but that idea is wrong, in fact it is believed by many that these apostate
teachers will actually be in the worst kind of punishment in hell. Judas was a man who lived in close contact
with our Lord Jesus Christ and Christ even called Him a friend when he was in
the midst of betraying our Lord, and yet Judas was not a believer at all. Judas had so many opportunities to understand
what Christ was going to the cross to do, and yet he turned his back on Christ
and betrayed him to those who would crucify Him. Apostates who have come to the point of
understanding what it takes to become a true believer in Jesus Christ and then
turn from Him before ever accepting Him as their Savior and Lord are actually
in the same category as Judas, and believe me this is a very sad situation for
sure. I will say that once a person has
become a true believer in Jesus Christ that they can never ever lose their
salvation as there are many places in the Scriptures that speak of this
including the 10th chapter of John verses 27-30 “27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know
them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give
eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
29 "My Father, who has given them
to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the
Father’s hand. 30 “I and the Father are one."”
Dr. Wiersbe writes “Now we better understand why this ‘freedom’
offered by these teachers is a false
freedom, a ‘freedom’ that only leads to bondage. It is based on false promises, empty words
that sound exciting but that have no divine authority behind them. It is offered by false Christians who were
involved in a false experience. From
start to finish this freedom is the product of our adversary, the devil.”
Peter and Paul both tells us to make sure that we truly a
born-again believer in Jesus Christ, and the problem is that there are many
people in our churches today that are not true believers, but they think that
they are.
Dr. Wiersbe concludes this section: “Christ is ‘the truth’ (John 14:6) and
following Him leads to freedom. The apostates
are liars and following them leads to bondage.
There can be no middle ground!” 10/1/2017
