PT-1 "Transference" (Col. 1:13b-14)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/11/2017 5:35 PM

My Worship Time                                                                                          Focus:  Transference

Bible Reading & Meditation                                           Reference:  Colossians 1:13b-14

Message of the verses:  “and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

We have been talking about three aspects of our salvation which Paul is thanking the Lord for in regard to what the Colossian believers had, which are what all believers have too.

Let us first look at the word transferred (“Methistemi”) means to remove or change.  It is used in Acts 13:22 to speak of God’s removing Saul from being king.  It was used in the ancient world to speak of the displacement of a conquered people to another land.  The verb speaks here of our total removal from the domain of satanic darkness to the glorious light of the kingdom of Christ.  Acts 13:22 says ““After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ’I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.’”  Now re-read the highlighted sentence and think about what that means to believers today.  This is a part of what it took for God to save a person and what a wonderful aspect it truly is.  2Co 5:17 “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

When we see the word “kingdom” that refers to more than the future millennial kingdom, which is that time when Jesus will return to earth and remake the earth and rule from Jerusalem for 1000 years. This kingdom is a spiritual reality right now as seen in Romans 14:17 “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”  John MacArthur writes that “The kingdom is the special relationship men in this age have with God through Jesus Christ.  A kingdom in its most basic sense is a group of people ruled by a king.  Christians have acknowledged Christ as their King and are subjects in His kingdom.  They have been ‘transferred…to the kingdom of His beloved Son.  The Greek text literally reads, ‘the Son of His loved’ (touhuiou tes agapes autou).  The Father gives the kingdom to the Son He loves, then to everyone who loves the Son (Luke 12:32).”  “"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.”

We know that Christ is not physically ruling on earth as He is at the right hand of the Father interceding for His children, yet He is no less a king.  Jesus said the following to Pilate in response to his question “Are you the King of the Jews?”  And Jesus said to him, "It is as you say."”  MacArthur adds “He reigns in eternity, rules now over His church, and one day will return to rule the earth as King of kings.”

We will look at the remaining portion of this section in our next SD.
