PT-3 "Jesus Christ In Relation to the Universe" (Col. 1:16-17)

SPIRITUAL DIARY FOR 1/20/2017 9:19 PM

My Worship Time                                      Focus:  Jesus Christ In Relation To The Universe PT3

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Colossians 1:16-17

Message of the verses:  “16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

We are looking at our third reason for Jesus’ primacy over creation which is that in Him all things hold together as seen in verse seventeen, and as mentioned I want to link this with a verse from 2 Peter 3:10 “10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.”  Now the word in the Greek translated “elements” is the word stoicheion and the meaning of this word is “any first thing, from which the others belonging to some series or composite whole take their rise (Greek/English Dictionary).”  I have heard that we also could describe this word as “basis building blocks” and of course the basic building block of everything in the universe is the atom.  Now I want to quote from a man D. Lee Chesnut from his book entitled “The Atom” which John MacArthur quotes in his commentary.  This will help us understand the atom.

“Consider the dilemma of the nuclear physical when he finally looks in utter amazement at the pattern he had now drawn of the oxygen nucleus…For here are eight positively charged protons closely associated together within the confines of this tiny nucleus.  With them are eight neutrons—a total of sixteen particles—eight positively charged eight with no charge.

“Earlier physicists had discovered that like charges of electricity and like magnetic poses repel each other, and unlike charges or magnetic poles attract each other. And the entire history of electrical phenomena and electrical equipment had been built up on those principles known as Coulomb’s law of electrostatic force and the law of magnetism.  What was wrong?  What holds the nucleus together?  Why doesn’t if fly apart?  And therefore, why do not all atoms fly apart?”

John MacArthur writes “Chesnut goes on to describe the experiments performed in the 1920’s and 1930’s that proved Coulomb’s law applied to atomic nuclei.  Powerful ‘atom smashers’ were used to fire protons into the nuclei of atoms.  Those experiments also gave scientists an understanding of the incredibly powerful force that held protons together within the nucleus.  Scientists have dubbed that force the ‘strong nuclear force,’ but have no explanation for why it exists.  The physicist George Gamow, one of the founders of the Big Bang theory of the origin of the universe, wrote,

‘The fact that we live in a world in which practically every object is potential nuclear explosive, without being blown to bits, is due to the extreme difficulties that attend the starting of a nuclear reaction.’

“Karl K. Darrow, a physicist at Bell (AT & T) Laboratories, agrees:

‘You grasp what this implies.  It implies that all the massive nuclei have no right to be alive at all.  Indeed, they should never have been created, and, if created, they should have blown up instantly.  Yet here they all are…Some inflexible inhibition is holding them relentlessly together.  The nature of the inhibition is also a secret…one thus far reserved by Nature for herself.’”

So this is where 2 Peter 3:10 comes in as I will quote it once again “10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.”  Now as we look at this from another verse this time from Hebrews 1:3a we read “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.  Now I want to conclude this SD by quoting from a sermon that John MacArthur preached in the 1970’s on these verses:

“Some day when it gets to be God’s time, He’s going to unstick the atoms.  The universe will explode in nuclear fission.  The heavens will pass away with an explosion that is called “a great noise,” and I can imagine that it will be something unbelievable.  “And the elements will melt with fervent heat,” another result of this terrible electrical charges going across the universe.  Everything is going to melt.  It’s going to be literally dissolved.  Luō, “to loose.”  “To loose” is the word.  It means “to loose that which is bound.” (That word loose in found in 2Peter 3:12).

“The nuclear glue is gone and everything is dissolves and melts.  The releasing, the loosing of the binding force destroys the nuclei of all the atoms.  The law of repulsion takes over.  Coulomb’s law will destroy the universe.  When Paul says, “He upholds all things,” or “By Him all things consist,” he tells us who it is that holds it all together.”

So here we combine the prophecy of how the universe will end with how Jesus Christ created the universe and holds it together as seen in Colossians and also in Hebrews.  The next prophetic event to happen will be the rapture of the church, shortly after that the tribulation period which last for seven years.  Next Christ will return to stop the war that is going on that if unchecked would probably destroy the world.  After that the Millennial Kingdom will begin and then the Great White Throne Judgments will take place after that.  Next will be what Peter tells us will happen as Christ lets loose of the power in the atoms and the world will be uncreated.  After that the new heaven and the new earth and the New Jerusalem will be revealed and eternity begins for all who have put their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.  Peter writes in 2 Peter 3:11-12a challenge for all who name the name of Jesus Christ:  “11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”
