PT-2 "Jesus Christ in Relation with the Universe" (Col. 1:16-17)

My Worship Time                                Focus:  PT-2 “Jesus Christ in Relation with the Universe”

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Colossians 1:16-17

            Message of the verses:  “16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

            I have to say that there are a couple of things that I really love to study from the Scriptures and one of them of course is prophecy and the other is creation and I have to say that these two kind of combine as we will hopefully see as we continue to study these verses.

            Now we left off in the middle of a second of three points and that second point speaks of the universe bearing witness to the tremendous wisdom and knowledge of its Creator.  Now I have said that the wind and the rain along with animals and fish obey the Lord, things that were created before God created his crown jewel which is man but mankind because of sin does not always obey the Lord in fact probably more times than not disobey the Lord. 

            As we continue looking at this second point we learn that the creation gives mute testimony to the intelligence of its Creator and we will look at a quote from John MacArthur’s commentary from a man named Max Planck who was the winner of the Nobel Prize and one of the founders of modern physics and he wrote “According to everything taught by the exact sciences about the immense realm of nature, a certain order prevails sciences about the immense realm of nature, a certain order prevails—one independent of the human mind…this order can be formulated in terms of purposeful activity.  There is evidence of an intelligent order of the universe to which both man and nature are subservient.”  This goes along with what the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 19:1-4 “1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. 2 Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun.”

            What the Psalmist is saying here is happening every day of the year.  We know when the sun will come up on any given day and what time is will set, and we know what phase the moon will be in years in advance and know what the tides of the oceans will do each day, and all of this is because of how God created and controls the universe, and even though it does not talk it does speak as the Psalmist says. 

            MacArthur writes “Jesus also has primacy over the creation because He is before all things.  When the universe began, He already existed (John 1:1-2; 1 John 1:1).  He told the Jews in John 8:58, ‘Before Abraham was born, I am’ (not I was).  He is saying that He is Yahweh, the eternally existing God.  The prophet Micah said of Him, ‘He is goings forth are from long ago, from the day of eternity’ (Micah 5:2).  Revelation 22:13 describes Him as ‘the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.’”  We know that anyone who existed before time began at the creation is eternal which is what Jesus is and always was.

            Our last point in which we will look at in our next SD speaks of Jesus’ primacy over creation is that in Him all things hold together and I believe in that section we will combine creation and prophecy.
