SPIRITUAL DIARY
My
Worship Time Focus: Saul is even more afraid
Bible
Reading & Meditation Reference: 1Samuel 18:28-30
Message of the verses: “28
When Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal,
Saul’s daughter, loved him, 29 then Saul
was even more afraid of David. Thus Saul was David’s enemy continually. 30 Then the commanders of the Philistines went
out to battle, and it happened as often as they went out, that David behaved
himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul. So his name was highly
esteemed.”
“For the choir director. A Psalm of
David the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in
the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from
the hand of Saul. And he said,» "I love You, O LORD, my strength.” This is the inscription at the beginning of
Psalm 18.
Dr. Wiersbe writes that David
drew closer to the Lord all of the time in this period of his life and it is
indicated by the inscription above.
Saul
continued his downward slide as he realized that his plan did not work and not
only did it not work to have David killed but he even realized that the Lord was
with David and also that his daughter loved David and when he went out to war
against the Philistines and did better than any of the other his commanders,
and that the people became more and more in love with David that Saul’s fear of
David increased. In an earlier SD I
wrote about envy and this fear that Saul had for David is a byproduct of envy
along with thoughts and actions to kill David.
Spiritual meaning for my life today: Envy is something that is very bad and the
Scripture has much to say about it in different places and none of it is
good. I would suppose that I, like all
believers have to guard myself against falling into the trap of envying someone
or suffer from the same things that Saul suffered with.
My
Steps of Faith for Today:
1.
Avoid the
pitfalls of envy at all costs.
