SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                                      Focus:  Saul sends David into battle

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Samuel 18:13-16

Message of the verses:  “13  Therefore Saul removed him from his presence and appointed him as his commander of a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. 14  David was prospering in all his ways for the LORD was with him. 15  When Saul saw that he was prospering greatly, he dreaded him. 16  But all Israel and Judah loved David, and he went out and came in before them.”
This SD begins the second stage in which Saul’s opposition was growing against David, and at was “Saul plots to have David killed.”  In this section Dr. Wiersbe writes “Faith is living without scheming,” but Saul was better at scheming than at trusting the God.”
This first sub-point under this section is the subject for today’s SD.  Saul is growing increasingly uncomfortable with David as he is very jealous of him and so he decides to make him a leader over 1000 men and send him out to go against the Philistines thinking that he would either be killed or loose to them and live and have his popularity go downhill.  The biggest thing is that Saul did not realize that the Lord was with David in all that he did and therefore this scheming against him would not work at all so there was no use in doing it for David would win all of the battles and his popularity would continue to grow.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I would suppose that one of the more difficult things for me, and may be for others is trying to help out the Lord when it comes to the affairs in my life and not realizing how to wait upon the Lord, knowing that He will do what is best for me when the timing is right.  I am always amazed from reading the Gospels that Jesus was never in a hurry, but He was never late for anything either.  This is the kind of thing that needs to be in my life, not being in a hurry all of the time even though that is the thing to do in the society that I live in.  Being in a hurry means you do not trust the Lord and it also means that you will probably be scheming, trying to help out the Lord.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Ps 27:14  Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.
2.      Ps 37:7  Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.
3.      Ps 37:9  For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land.
4.      Ps 37:34  Wait for the LORD and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
5.      Isa 40:31  Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.
