SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                                          Focus:  Saul demands an impossible feat

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  1Samuel 18:17-27

Message of the verses:  “17  Then Saul said to David, "Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife, only be a valiant man for me and fight the LORD’S battles." For Saul thought, "My hand shall not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him." 18  But David said to Saul, "Who am I, and what is my life or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be the king’s son-in-law?" 19  So it came about at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite for a wife. 20  Now Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved David. When they told Saul, the thing was agreeable to him. 21  Saul thought, "I will give her to him that she may become a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him." Therefore Saul said to David, "For a second time you may be my son-in-law today." 22  Then Saul commanded his servants, "Speak to David secretly, saying, ’Behold, the king delights in you, and all his servants love you; now therefore, become the king’s son-in-law.’" 23  So Saul’s servants spoke these words to David. But David said, "Is it trivial in your sight to become the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?" 24  The servants of Saul reported to him according to these words which David spoke. 25  Saul then said, "Thus you shall say to David, ’The king does not desire any dowry except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to take vengeance on the king’s enemies.’" Now Saul planned to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. 26  When his servants told David these words, it pleased David to become the king’s son-in-law. Before the days had expired 27  David rose up and went, he and his men, and struck down two hundred men among the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. So Saul gave him Michal his daughter for a wife.”
This section continues to show that Saul would do anything to get rid of David even use both of his daughters to help in his cause to have David killed.  God was with David and God overruled in these events as David turned down the first offer to become Saul’s son-in-law even though he was suppose to have Saul’s first wife Merab as his wife for killing Goliath.  David second daughter Michal was in love with David and desired to marry him and so this gave Saul another opportunity to use a daughter to help in his cause to kill David.  He talked David into getting the foreskins of 100 Philistines for the price of the bride, and David and his men doubled this by getting 200 and much to the dismay of Saul, David was not killed.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  God had a plan for David and not matter what Saul tried to do to him it would be overruled by the Lord because nothing can step in the way of God fulfilling His plans.  I believe that Ephesians 2:10 speaks of works that believers are to do for the Lord after they have been saved, which is spoken of in verses eight and nine.  I hope that my theology is correct in saying that these works that I am to do for the Lord were spoken of in eternity past and I want very much to accomplish all of them for the glory of the Lord even though I struggle with certain sins and am tempted daily by them.  This is a very difficult battle for me but I truly believe that I will overcome these temptations by the power of the Word and the Holy Spirit that lives in me, and through the blood of my Savior, Jesus Christ.
My Steps of Faith for Today:

1.       Ephesians 6:10-18 speaks of the protective armor of God and how to put it on and how to use it:  10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11  Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14  Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15  and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16  in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18  With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.”
