An Oath

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  An oath

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Hebrews 6:16

            1.  Message of the verse:  “For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.”  (NASB)  “When people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it.  And without any question that oath is binding.”  (NLT)

As I look at this verse I believe that the NLT translates this verse in a way that it can be understood very clearly.  If a person is going to make an oath they usually say, “so help me God” as is done when a witness takes the stand in court.  By doing this they are saying that what they are saying in this oat is true and binding.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I must say that this verse gives added conviction to a vow that I made to the Lord in late 1980 to read my Bible at least five minutes each day and for some reason I did not do this yesterday.  I did read from my Bible and did part of my devotions but I do not think that I read it for five minutes.  I can say that I surely studied it for more than five minutes.

The Word of God brought conviction to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  It seems to me that Satan is doing his best to attack, not only me, but others of my friends too.  The Bible makes it clear that when people are living for the Lord and doing things that are against the forces of evil that these forces of evil headed up by Satan will begin to attack.  I must use the weapons that the Lord has given me as a believer to fight these forces in the name and by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and for His honor and glory.  Putting on the Spiritual Armor and using the offensive weapons of the Word of God and prayer will win the battle.  The Bible says we must stand!

Memory verses for the week:  Psalms 40:1-3

  1. I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
  2. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
  3. And He put a new song in my heart, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear, And will trust in the LORD.
