Work Done in the Name of Jesus (Heb. 6:10)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

                                                                                                Date:  03-04-03

My Worship Time                              Focus:  Work done in the name of Jesus

Bible Reading & Meditation                                     Reference:  Hebrews 6:10

            1.  Message of the verse:  “For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.”  (NASV)  “For God is not unfair.  He will not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how you have shown your love to Him by caring for other Christians, as you still do.”  (NLT)

I believe that the message of this verse teaches the reader not to give up when the tough times come, but to be comforted by the works of love that has been done by them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Christ is the motive for doing good works, as we are His hands and feet on earth to do His work as members of His body.  I think of doing thing in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and I think of the times when different people in the Bible would rebuke Satan by doing that in the name of Jesus Christ or cast out demons in the name of Jesus Christ.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  I am comforted by this verse in light of having such a bad day yesterday.  However I must say that on far too many occasions when I am having a bad experience that I do not run to the Lord to receive His direction and comfort, but I try and solve these problems on my own.  This is wrong.

The Word of God brought comfort to my heart as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  As life seems difficult at this time, and as it started going badly after learning of John’s problems with what I believe to be demon activity, I want to trust the Lord to see all of us in our small group through this situation and to be a comfort to John as he continues to meet with us.

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 40: 1-3

  1. I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.
  2. HE brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
  3. And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear and trust in the LORD.
