God Promises (Heb. 6:13)

SPIRITUAL DIARY

My Worship Time                              Focus:  God promises

Bible Reading & Meditation                         Reference:  Hebrews 6:13

            1.  Message of the verse:  “For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,”  (NASB)  “For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham.  Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in His own name saying:”  (NLT)

Yesterday I referred to Joshua and Caleb as to whom the writer was referring to when he wrote about promises and it could certainly fit into the situation he was referring to from the Old Testament, however he now brings up in this verse the promise that God made to Abraham.  In the promises that God made with Abraham He swore by Himself because there was no on greater to sware by as this verse states.  I believe this verse shows that God will bring about His purposes for man even if at times man falls on his face, and the reason that I say this is because of God swearing by Himself.  God fulfills some of His promises to believers in spite of them acting sinful because this is what He has intended for them to do.  Case in point is what the writer has been referring to in the previous chapters when he wrote about Israel’s journey to the promise land.  It was God’s purpose that they get there and even though only two of the people who left Egypt go there the next generation did get there so God’s purpose was done in spite of man’s sin.  I do not want to seem as if the only thing that counts is God’s purpose being fulfilled without any emotion from God, for it is because of God’s great love for man that He has made these promises and this is what we as believers need to hold onto by faith as the writer eludes to in these next verses, after all faith is one of the main themes in this wonderful book.

            2.  Spiritual meaning for my life today:  To believer that some of God’s promises are for me and to step out on faith and claim these promises in my life so that I do not have to go through a type of life like the majority of the ones who God brought out of Egypt.

The Word of God has been challenging to me as I read it this morning.

My Steps of Faith Today:  To believe that God has a purpose for my life each day that I live and to be faithful to Him as I seek to do His will each and every day, for He knows more about my life than I will ever know.

Memory verses for the week:  Psalm 40: 1-3

I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

And He put a new song in my heart, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear, And will trust in the LORD.
